  Richmond was in incorporated in 1742 and during American Civil War was the capital of Confederate States of America. Having deep roots in history, Richmond not only has a multitude of historic activities to do but being one of the biggest cities in Virginia this area provides a lot more to offer. Located along the James River makes Richmond a perfect location for fun water activities, hikes along the James River North Bank or enjoy bird watching. Summertime in Richmond is quite popular for multiple events, festivals and fairs. Check out a few below with the family, memories are sure to be made!

  Flowers after Five: Every Thursday held June-August take the family and enjoy Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. Stroll through the gardens as you listen to music, sample some good eats and wet your whistle with drinks while enjoying beautiful summer sunsets.

  Bacon Lovers!! Richmond Bacon Festival is June 18th at 17th Street Farmers Market where you can enjoy EVERYTHING BACON! Bacon Lattes, Bacon wrapped hotdogs, bacon ice cream, bacon cheddar string fries, and a few more pig oddities.

  Slide the City is June 18th on Byrd Street where you can slip n slide to your hearts content.  A 1000 foot slip n slide where you can slide all day or just try it once. Whatever you choose its sure to be a slippin’ good time!

  Street Food Festival on Brown’s Island June 24. Local Vender’s combine multi-cultural  food, music, and art with a brand new event this year. Enjoy foods and “street cart” treats from all over the world while learning of the cultural behind them. This is truly an event not to miss !

  Dragon Boat Festival is July 29th where you can enjoy colorfully-costumed local’s race dragon boats down the James River. Enjoy the races, food trucks and other fun festival festivities.

  Butterflies LIVE! Held daily through October at Lewis Ginter Botancial Gardens. Take the family and stroll through the Butterfly Garden where you can come up close and personal with butterflies from all over the world. Learn about their habitats, life cycles and origins.

  Football Fans come enjoy Redskins Training Camp July 27th-August 13th. Fun for the whole family ! Bring your lawn chairs or picnic blankets and enjoy your lunch while watching the Redskins Practice. Maybe even score a few autographs!

  Carytown Watermelon Festival is August 13th. Enjoy watermelon themed eats from local venders and maybe score a treasure or two from boutiques along the “mile of style”. Mom and Dad can enjoy some beverages while the kiddos play in the kids entertainment area.
