There are a few different styles from which to choose. First, there are the different types of logs from which the house is made: Square or rectangular, round, Swedish cope, D-log, or handcrafted. Then, there are different types of corner styles: interlocking, saddle notch, dove tail, butt & pass, & corner pass.

Considerations for log homes for sale or cabins for sale:

1. Location, location, location
A lot of this depends on what kind of recreation you plan on getting into. Log Cabins evoke a sense of privacy and intimacy with nature, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Are you looking to get away? Are you looking to be close to town, you just love the woodsy feel? Is this going to be a weekend home? Swimming, hunting, kayaking, hiking? Location and site will be the determining factor for all of these activities, and it’s best to let your Realtor know what you want to use the property for beforehand. Knowing this makes it possible for the agent to pick out properties that best suit your recreational desires.

2. Size
How cozy you want to be with who you sneak away with is essential as well. Also, do you plan on inviting extended family or friends out the cabin as well? Plan on accommodating these people as well, if it’s infrequent, you may just want enough living space that you can fit a few fold-out couches. If you think you are going to be a host reasonably often, then add in desired bedrooms appropriately into your total amount. Think about the square footage of your own home as well, and what range of square footage you think would work best for your cabin. Having this well thought out will help your Virginia Realtor get off to a quick and successful search.

3. Price Range
The log cabin might be your new home, retirement home or second home, whatever it is, be reasonable in your price range. If it is not your primary home, you could think about renting it out via Airbnb to earn income on the property while you aren’t there. While this isn’t for everyone, it might pay the mortgage on the property if that is something that interests you. If that is the case, be sure to research AirBnB’s and lodging around the area you’re seeking to be fully aware of the market.
