Richmond has many amazing neighborhoods but one of the city’s most interesting neighborhoods is the gorgeous Museum District. Rich History in Richmond, VA

With the history of this area reaching back to the 1880s, there is a plethora of historical sites. Famous architects like D. Wiley Anderson who designed houses in this area exude historical charm and architectural magnificence. The Wendall Powell House, located at 3201 Grove Ave, is a great example of the historical architecture that can be found throughout the museum district. St. Benedict’s Church, built in the late 1920s, truly stands out and shows the magnificence and fortitude of the historical buildings in the Museum District.

We cannot talk about the Museum District without talking about the museums. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is a big part of the community. With free admission, it’s a good thing that it’s open every day of the year. You could easily spend days walking around this museum and seeing art from world-famous painters like Artemisia Gentileschi or marvel at the fine sculpture work of Kehinde Wiley. The rotating exhibitions are also a must-see, with art exhibits ranging from the terracotta army built around 210 BC to the famous photographer Man Ray. This family-friendly museum also hosts classes throughout the year for both children and adults. The Virginia Museum of History & Culture is right around the corner from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Learn more about the rich past of Virginia. With exhibits showcasing the Virginia landscape and the guns used throughout Virginia’s historical past. One of the favorite exhibits of the community is Cheers, Virginia, which showcases the history of alcohol production in the state. From the history of what was drunk during the Revolutionary War to modern craft brewing, you can learn all of Virginia’s diverse drinking history.

Stop by one of the many award-winning restaurants that can be found around any corner. The charm of this neighborhood is finding a restaurant like The Stables at Belmont located in the middle of a residential block. Or you can stop by the window of North End Juice Company and grab fresh juice and a tuna poke bowl while walking around.
