Stone Mountain Vineyards

Located atop a mountain at 1,700 feet, Stone Mountain Vineyards’ unique perch provides a perspective quite different from that of other vineyards. Its expansive observation deck allows visitors to look out over the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains rather than up to them.

Visitors can relax on the shady observation deck and enjoy pleasant mountain breezes as they sip award-winning wine and look down into the fertile valleys below.

Stone Mountain produces Italian-influenced wines that showcase the flavorful grapes produced by Virginia’s unique terroir. The wines crafted at Stone Mountain Vineyards include Pinot Grigio, Viognier, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Maquillage.

The rustic winery was built into the side of the mountain and was designed to optimize gravity flow processing in order to produce the best wine possible. The way in which the winery was built into the mountain has created Stone Mountain’s unique wine cave.

In order to make the richest, most flavorful wine, the vineyard begins with the best fruit possible. The grapes are grown to be high quality, low yield to maximize the intensity of each grape. The mountaintop location of the vineyard has proved ideal for growing grapes as it prevents the heavy spring frost from settling in and provides rich soil in which to grow the grapes.

While many vineyards have turned away from handpicking grapes, Stone Mountain emphasizes this traditional practice as in ensures that only the best fruit is sent to the winery.

Visitors are welcomed to Stone Mountain by the warm of the rich hardwood that makes up the tasting room. The cozy, relaxing, rustic setting makes it difficult to choose whether to sip one’s wine indoors or outside on the observation deck from which offers some of the most spectacular views in Virginia.

The highest elevated winery in the state, visitors feel as if they are on top of the world as they sip their wine, and it is easy to realize and appreciate the vision of Stone Mountain’s founders.
