Pollak Vineyards
Located just 15 miles west of historic Charlottesville in Greenwood, Virginia, Pollak Vineyards is a small family-owned winery nestled into the hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Founded in 2003 when owners Margo and David Pollak purchased an organic farm, Pollak is a relatively new addition to the well-known Monticello Wine Trail.
David Pollak, long active in the wine business, quickly discovered that great, unique wines could be produced from meticulously maintained vineyards that boasted the distinctive Virginia terroir. With the goal of creating world-class wines, Pollak Vineyards boasts 27 acres of French vinifera, and crafts wine with the balance and intensity of the traditional French varietals.
Pollak Vineyards crafts several varieties of high quality wine including Chardonnay, Viognier, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The state-of-the-art winery allows winemakers at Pollak to control each aspect of winemaking with the utmost care.
Pollak’s meticulous nature is demonstrated by the winery’s cold room, used to stabilize temperatures of the grapes before fermentation, and by the small batches in which wine is produced. These small batches allow the winery to more carefully monitor each batch of wine to ensure that it has the best flavor possible. The small batches and the different types of containers in which wines are aged are meant to respect differences of terroir where grapes were grown.
Visitors to Pollak Vineyards enjoy magnificent views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the pond, and incredible views of the vineyard’s first vines as they sip wine in the tasting room or on the shady patio.
Pollak is the perfect place to take the family on a Sunday afternoon picnic during which the adults indulge themselves in some of Virginia’s best wine, or to have a romantic afternoon out. Whatever your reason for visiting Pollak, the vineyard will be sure to impress and surprise even the most dedicated wine connoisseur.
