Welcome to this timeless and classic “Manor” house and beautiful surrounding grounds on nearly 3.5 acres with western mountain views. Proudly presented here is a valuable “turn-key” opportunity to own and operate this successful, award-winning, and profitable Bed and Breakfast and Event Venue—with a special focus on fabulous, but affordable, weddings and receptions. This special focus is perfectly suited to the surrounding market economic profile, and supports strong bookings by virtue of the appeal of delivering considerable value for the fees charged.
The property is located in Madison Heights, VA and is part of the greater Lynchburg Metropolitan Statistical Area which as of 2019 has a population of nearly 264,000. This area comprises Lynchburg City and the surrounding counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell. While the venue location is in a country setting, it is only 14 minutes to downtown Lynchburg, and only 20 minutes to Liberty University. The University of Lynchburg, Randolph College, and Sweet Briar College are also only minutes away. The close proximity to college campus settings helps drive both the B&B and wedding event business revenues at the Manor.
There is also an interesting historical aspect of this special place—it was constructed in 1910 from trees harvested on the property and milled on site to provide all of the framing and finished lumber components of this magnificent home. The Manor was carefully and lovingly built by Wallace Taylor, Sr. for his wife and young, growing family. Taylor was a well-known entrepreneur and the founder of the Piedmont Automobile Company, and established his factory nchburg. The Piedmont thrived in its early years, but was eventually overtaken by better known in Lynchburg. The Piedmont thrived in its early years, but was soon overtaken by automobiles manufactured in Detroit. Nevertheless, the Piedmont was an important milestone in this country’s early automobile history and in the rising economic power of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the early 20th century.
The Manor House:
As you approach up the long, paved entry drive this gorgeous 1910 Colonial-Greek Revival Manor—with its soaring Corinthian columns lining the sweeping front porch—proves to be as breathtaking as the majestic mountain views and dramatic sunsets that can be seen from the home’s spacious second level rear porch. It is truly a “story book” setting that imparts a feeling of graciousness, romance, history, and welcoming hospitality for your guests!
The Manor house consists of two stories with 5,064 square feet of finished space, with a 2,784 square foot main level and 2,280 square foot second floor. There is also another 684 square feet in the attic level that could be finished out as 2 very spacious suites with minimal effort—as HVAC, plumbing, and electricity are already accessible in the attic area.
For gracious outdoor relaxation, there is also a 420 square foot front porch area set off by massive Corinthian columns—and there is also a spacious 504 square foot second level rear covered porch from which to watch the awesome sunsets with someone special and with one’s favorite refreshment in hand…Cheers!
On the first level, one enters into a traditional foyer area with the classic main stairway straight ahead on the right and the library/drawing room immediately to the right with pocket doors and then the parlor immediately to the left. Both rooms have very attractive mantels and trim work throughout, and the parlor opens to the very spacious main dining room which can also be accessed directly from the extended foyer hallway. The main dining room has direct access to the oversized kitchen, outfitted with all the modern and updated amenities including custom wooden cabinetry.
The remainder of the main level consists of a spacious owner’s suite, laundry room, and one half-bath restroom.
The second floor is divided into four spacious guest suites, one private bedroom, and three full and well-appointed bathrooms—with one being outfitted up to a virtual “spa” level experience.
In general, the interior has red heart pine floors, ceramic tile floor covering in certain areas, painted plaster walls, painted plaster ceilings, and 10-foot ceiling heights on both levels all providing a rich, spacious feel to this historic home. The current owners purchased this former single-family home in 2016, and embarked upon a comprehensive renovation inside and out to remake it into the fine bed & breakfast and event venue that it is today.
The Grounds:
Situated on pristine acreage of with extensive, serene landscaping, you and your guests can marvel over the front and center koi pond with fountains and just adjacent to one of the favorite ceremony sites with a distinctive white metal framed gazebo over a brick patio surface. Near the church façade there is also a 144 square foot patio with a fire pit in the center and surrounded by a pergola with multiple swings in place.
One of the most important outdoor improvements made by the current owners was the construction of a 2,394 square foot “Cathedral Pavilion” with enclosable vinyl walls, wall curtains, ceiling curtains, decorative lighting, and ceiling fans. This facility can accommodate up to 150 guests. An outdoor restroom facility is also nearby.
