North Gate Vineyard

Located in Loudoun, Virginia, North Gate Vineyard is an award-winning winery that strives to embrace and convey the nuances of its terroir with each glass of wine. As a LEED Gold certified winery, North Gate is dedicated to the preservation of the environment, and utilizes viticultural practices that will minimize its effect on the land.

North Gate works hard to ensure that the great fruit it produces is turned into wine that will make the Virginia terroir proud. They strive to know their grapes so they know how to nurture each varietal, as well know their site so that each grape variety will showcase the terroir. The winery sees each vintage as a new journey that reflects the last growing season and the current inspirations of the winemaker.

The winery is meticulous and careful, but flexible from year to year in order to produce wine that is consistently delicious if distinctive each season. North Gate’s winemaking style shows off the character of the individual varietals. They also use less oak in the wines in order to better show off the character of the fruit without other flavors masking it. The blends they produce show off their creativity and allow visitors to enjoy unique wine that they won’t find elsewhere.

North Gate’s current vintages include Chardonnay, Viognier, Rose, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Chambourcin. After visitors taste the incredible wines, many want to experience it again after returning home. As a result of its popularity, the wine is for sale in various restaurant and shops in Virginia, Maryland, and DC, as well as at several local farmers’ markets.

Over the years its wines have won many awards including the gold medal in the 2011 Virginia Governor’s Cup for its Viognier, the gold medals in the 2012 Indy International for its Cabernet Franc and Meritage, and the gold medal in the 2012 Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association competition for its Petit Verdot.

North Gate Vineyard is nestled against the base of the Short Ridge Mountains in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. Visitors are offered breathtaking views from its tasting room and patio as they sip the wine grown and crafted on the lush acres before them.

The tasting room is completely solar powered and was built with locally sourced green building materials. Picturesque views of the 26 acres and warm indoor and outdoor fireplaces are just fringe benefits of a visit to the vineyard, the real highlight of which is the delicious wine.
