CHANTILLY HOMES BY PRICE

A little less than 30 miles from the center of Washington DC, Chantilly homes for sale made there way to the top of the list in popularity a long time ago. Never mind the employment opportunities that are numerous in neighboring communities, Chantilly has much to offer, even in the way of government jobs.

Because Chantilly was not developed until the 1980’s and beyond, the homes are mostly newer homes, the majority having been built in the 2000’s. Luxury family homes with modern amenities make up a lot of the neighborhoods, this means that many of the homes are move-in ready and were previously owned by professionals and families. This is the perfect place for those of you that do not have the time and energy to deal with the problems that come along with older homes.

The Beginning: Chantilly VA

The name Chantilly harks back to the very beginnings of this community. In the 1700’s the land was home to many plantations, a portion of one which was inherited by Cornelia Lee Tuberville Stuart. Cornelia and her husband Charles then constructed the Chantilly Plantation (named after her grandfather’s plantation in Westmoreland, Virginia) in the early 1800’s. Unfortunately, as happened to many residences during the Civil War, the main residence burned to the ground. After the war was over, Mrs. Stuart had accumulated quite a large amount of debt and sold her Chantilly estate.

Growth of the little village occurred in the 19th century mainly following the development of the Little River Turnpike. As a suburb of Washington DC, Chantilly did not gain momentum until the 1980’s when developers began buying farmland up and building up residential and commercial areas.
